Xcode is free. Agents and chat bill the ChatGPT, Claude or API account you connect. An Apple Developer Program membership is only needed for distribution, not for using Xcode. Apple's docs also list a Gemini config folder, but no Gemini agent is documented.

Reads the codebase, edits files and runs commands, with a VS Code and JetBrains extension and a web surface on the same engine. Claude Agent is built on the Claude Agent SDK, the harness behind Claude Code. Xcode downloads it and you sign in to your Claude account in the agent settings.
- [Codex CLI](https://whichcoding.tools/tools/codex-cli) (via CLI, Free with your existing login): OpenAI's open source terminal agent. Signs in with a ChatGPT account and shares the plan's usage window, or bills an API key at token prices. Xcode downloads and updates the Codex agent itself. Configuration files live in ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/CodingAssistant/codex.
